Dr. Robert E. Carlson, head of the History Department at West Chester State College and general chairman of the Chester County Tricentennial Committee, was the speaker at the Club's annual banquet in November. His remarks — and challenge — to the Club comprises the lead article in this issue of the Quarterly, The cover design for the issue, incidentally, is the "logo" that has been especially prepared for the Chester County Tricentennial Committee.

With Valentine's Day about a month away, Linda McNeil's article on true lover's knots, and the one designed by her great, great grandfather, George Washington Lewis, is a timely one. Linda McNeil is a director of the Radnor Historical Society as well as a member of the Tredyffrin Easttown History Club, and is the media specialist at Valley Forge Junior High School, She is also an artist and has exhibited in a number of local art shows.

The service of the Pennsylvania Railroad was obviously an important factor in the transition of this area from a predominantly agricultural region to it s present suburban character. Living in the suburbs, and our area, was promoted by the Pennsylvania Railroad, and is recalled by Bob Goshorn.

The article on burials at St. Peter's Church, by Elizabeth Rumrill, is a continuation of a series started in the previous issue of the Quarterly with a record of burials in the eighteenth century. In this and succeeding issues will be a listing of the nineteenth century burials, in alphabetical order.
