Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Plan OK'd

Tredyffrin supervisors adopted a new plan for Parks, Recreation, and Open Space at their May 2, 2005 meeting, looking to create a township-wide trail system, more open space, and enhanced recreational programs. The plan calls for building sidewalks and trails where they do not currently exist and working to link local trails with county and state trails. The plan also proposes easier pedestrian and cyclist access to township destinations such as the Tredyffrin Library in Strafford. A key component will be the planned Chester Valley Trail which will run east-west through the middle of the township parallel with Route 202. The trail, a joint effort of Montgomery and Chester counties, will link Norristown and Downingtown when completed. Construction of new trail sections will likely begin in 2006

Easttown Township Marks Passing of Supervisor

A dedicated public official in Easttown Township and Paoli resident, attorney Anthony S. "Skip" Minisi died of cancer on May 5, 2005 at the age of 78. He had served on the Easttown Board of Supervisors since 1983, the year the board was increased from three supervisors to five. Before that he served as a member, including as president, of the Tredyffrin/Easttown School Board.

Known for his gruff exterior, he was nonetheless a most kind, gracious, and giving man. Profiled in the recent Easttown Township history book, he was remembered for his significant football ability. During his collegiate years between 1944 and 1947, he was a left-handed All-American halfback. Though he spent most of his college career with the University of Pennsylvania's Quakers, he was for one war-time year a Midshipman with the U.S. Naval Academy. He also played briefly with the New York Giants in the NFL before beginning his law career. He was inducted into the National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame in 1987.

The Board of Supervisors named 57-year-old Richard T. Frazier, the township's current tax collector, to serve out Mr. Minisi's term, which expires at the end of 2005. Frazier received an MBA from Dartmouth College in 1970, and a law degree from Villanova University in 1976. The Easttown Republican Committee will choose a candidate to list on the ballot for the upcoming November general election.

Conestoga High Celebrates 50th Graduating Class

On June 8, 2005, when Conestoga High School's 50th graduating class marched into Villanova University's Pavilion it was accompanied by two members from each of the previous 49 graduating classes. The alumni procession was planned as the climax to Conestoga's year-long 50th birthday celebration. Richard Aigeldinger and Barb Stark led the procession as representatives of the Class of '56, Conestoga's first graduating class. Sandy de Holl and Stephen Goff followed representing the Class of '57, then Ann Seybert and Robert Barajas, Sr., and so on to Catherine Clark and David Dreibelbis of the Class of ‘04. The 439 graduating seniors of the Class of '05 received their diplomas during the commencement festivities.
