Past Meeting

At our public meeting on Sunday, November 20, 2011 the featured presentation was:

William Penn's Legacy

by Barbara Cohen

Barbara introduced her presentation by sharing William Penn's story and his legacy of religious tolerance, and how this came to shape the forming of our nation. Penn's charter of religious toleration was far ahead of its time, and created a colony where the broadest individual freedoms established the guiding principles that would later become a part of the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. Her presentation also illustrated a large array of different denominations and architectural styles of the early churches in Philadelphia and Chester County which were able to be established because of William Penn's philosophy.

As the final part of our 75th anniversary year celebration this presentation was be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Berwyn, and was followed by "high tea" as was often the case in our meetings held there in the past.
