In 2013, former Tredyffrin Easttown Historical Society president C. Herbert (“Herb”) Fry generously offered the Society the opportunity to make high-resolution scans of the scores of images which local photographer Lucy Sampson had taken between 1900-1920 of our local area, and which he and his beloved wife Barbara had collected over a lifetime. Throughout the 2013 summer, past Society president Roger Thorne worked with Herb to not only scan these images, but collect Herb's detailed memories of each. Roger, with Herb at his side, presented these century-old images with their contemporary counterparts in a NOW and THEN context, providing the time traveller within each of us some surprises and many pleasant comparisons. |
Roger Thorne is a current board member and former president of the Society, and has provided us with many well-received and carefully-researched presentations and Quarterly articles on a wide variety of fascinating subjects. His love of old photographs and expertise at juxtaposing them with contemporary views, along with the fascinating stories they evoke, will make this program memorable. This presentation was be held at the Easttown Library & Information Center in Berwyn, PA. |
