The Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area (HSPA) is located in the former Lutheran church building at the corner of Main and Church Streets in Phoenixville. Following an extensive renovation, the building reopened in June 2025. The lower level houses administrative offices, archives, and other support facilities, and the former sanctuary space on the upper level contains well-curated exhibits on a wide variety of subjects.

HSPA has information about local genealogy, information and photos of old buildings and homes, old local newspapers on microfilm, old photographs of people and the Phoenixville area, yearbooks from Phoenixville High School, many historical artifacts, including a Phoenix Steel Column, and many pieces of Etruscan Majolica that were made in Phoenixville in the late 1800s by Griffen, Smith & Hill. The museum contains permanent displays about town history and early Phoenixville leaders, such as Samuel Whitaker Pennypacker who was born in Phoenixville in 1843 and served as Pennsylvania Governor from 1903 to 1907, as well as rotating special exhibits.

Our tour will start at approximately 2 PM. After our guided tour of the museum on the upper level, we will gather on the lower level to enjoy some light refreshments. Please note that the upper level is accessible via elevator.

The main lower-level entrance is on Church Street. Parking is available nearby in several lots, as well as on the street. In particular, there is a public parking lot with an entrance a half-block west on Church Street. Phoenixville is often busy on weekends, and allowing a little extra time to locate a parking spot is recommended, as is car-pooling with friends.
